Sofia Lopez Mañan

Sofía López Mañán is an Argentinian artist, photographer, filmmaker, naturalist and National Geographic Explorer whose work explores the entangled relationships between humans and the environment. Combining art and scientific inquiry, she works across photography, film, archival research, performance and speculative storytelling to question anthropocentric narratives and investigate how constructs of nature, identity and interspecies relationships shape our perception of the world. Her long-term project, “A Book of Nature” (to be published by SED Editorial in March 2026), was part of the 2019 Joop Swart Masterclass and received recognition from POY Latam, PhMuseum and Sony. She has been awarded production grants from National Geographic, the Pulitzer Center, photojournalist Ami Vitale and Journalismfund Europe for environmental projects across Latin America. Her debut feature documentary, “Kamatsu’s Odyssey,” which premiered in the 2024 International Competition at BAFICI, went on to screen at festivals worldwide.
